I rarely post about American politics on ths blog, and almost never about specific American politicians. Today, I am making an exception to highlight the dangers of one particular American politician who has recently been trying to stir up the desire for secession and civil war in the United States. To call this woman crazy is to let her off the hook. She knows what she is doing, and is skilled at manipulating her fan base among gun-loving, immigrant-hating white Americans. She is dangerous, be certain of that.
Like me, you might well wonder why anyone ever voted for her, and also why she has not been arrested and imprisoned.
If you don’t know who she is, then this Wikipedia article will give you some idea.
Marjorie Taylor Greene (born May 27, 1974), also known by her initials MTG, is an American politician, businesswoman, and far-right conspiracy theorist who has been the U.S. representative for Georgia’s 14th congressional district since 2021. A member of the Republican Party, she was elected to Congress in 2020 following the retirement of Republican incumbent Tom Graves, and reelected in 2022.
Greene has promoted antisemitic, white supremacist, and far-right conspiracy theories, including the white genocide conspiracy theory, QAnon, and Pizzagate. Other extremist conspiracy theories she has promoted include government involvement in mass shootings in the United States, murders perpetrated by the Clinton family (Clinton body count), and 9/11 conspiracy theories. Before running for Congress, she supported calls to execute prominent Democratic Party politicians, including Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
As a congresswoman, she equated the Democratic Party with Nazis, and compared COVID-19 safety measures to the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust, later apologizing for this comparison. During the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Greene promoted Russian propaganda and praised Vladimir Putin. Greene identifies as a Christian nationalist.
Her recent TV appearance, hinting at a possible civil war in America.

Marge is among the five most UNqualified members of our Congress today. She has zero education, zero experience, and is a conspiracy theorist from the start. What she says should be taken with a grain of salt, but unfortunately she has cozied up to the people in power. A very dangerous situation.

No worse than AOC, Bernie or Chuck. There’s talk of secession every legislative session in Texas. It’s all gas. Until we invade Mexico and let ‘em have this mess🤣

They’ve been wrangling about it for longer than I’ve been alive. Some local politico every session has to prove they’re the most conservative or the most fed up with invasion from the north and south and is looking for air time. What I’d like to see politicians do is get something done before a calamity instead of after.

She is, in my opinion, a Traitor to the United States – when elected to Congress, you take an path to uphold the constitution of the US – she is calling for civil war and that is seditious activity.

She comes from Georgia, albeit just a small sector of Georgia. Our former president Jimmie Carter also comes from Georgia and he is as good as a human being as she is bad. So sad! There are a lot of her kind of politicians currently serving. There is no one as fine a person as Jimmie Carter. And sadly he is about to leave us.
And yesterday a grand jury in Atlanta has asked for indictments against a host of politicians that are on the same mold as this crazy. Possible the leader of the pack, DJ Trump.

Sadly, today’s Georgia voters are not the same people who gave you Carter, Don.

True, Pete. But the entire state elected Carter and the AG that is going after dirty politicians today.
MTG won her election as a Represented, one of 13 in Georgia,in and by a very small district in Georgia. She would never had reached the primaries if she had to have been voted on by Georgia as a whole. Such as if she ran for one of two Senate seats of Georgia.
A good example of bad voting laws in the US. The same kind of laws that got Trump elected even though Clinton had way more total votes.

She is very dangerous and she is not alone. This is the face of the Republican party. I don’t understand how these people are allowed to propagate lies. Free speech is fine, everyone is entitled to express their opinion, but not to spread vicious lies that are soaked up by vulnerable people. I was reading an article yesterday about the dangers of stupidity which did not make me feel any better.

I think you’re right about how dangerous she is. It’s too easy for rational people to dismiss her as a nutjob–but as we’ve seen since 2016, we do so at our peril.
