Out With A Camera

On Saturday afternoon, I took the Panasonic LX-100 out with me on Ollie’s walk. Before anyone asks why there are no photos of Ollie, he flatly refused to stay in sight of the camera! As that camera only has a 75mm zoom, I wasn’t even able to fool him from a distance.

(The photos are linked from Flickr. They can be enlarged there by clicking on them.)

The Snowdrops are out in abundance, especially in the sheltered area by the main road.

And in clumps by the riiver.

I promised photos of the new footbridge, so here they are. This goes across the river onto Hoe Rough.

At one of the entrances to Beetley Meadows, the Crocuses are covered in leaves, and barely visible.

The Daffodils are standing proud though.

Next time I will try to capture Ollie with a longer zoom lens. 🙂

  1. Looking very spring-like, Pete. Here we had snow in Tibidabo yesterday, although I don’t think it lasted long. Not common even in the winter here, so I wonder how the plants will fare. We also have a draught, but, thankfully, we saw quite a fair amount of rain, and we hope the snow might make a difference. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of Ollie next.

  2. As we await the first real snow of the season I am heartened to see your signs of spring. We usually won’t see daffodils until early April. A few crocus came up in a warm spell but the squirrels quickly finished them off.

  3. What a beautiful landscape Pete, and you captured it well. Compared to my neighborhood, full of cement sidewalks, streets, and houses stacked side by side, your world is enchanting. Wish you were able to snap on of Ollie! Next time. Hugs, C

    1. That area is in sight from the front windows of our house, Cheryl. One of the
main reasons why we chose this village to move to. It is a protected Wildlife Trust, so will hopefully never change. I will try a different camera for Ollie next time. (I have six to choose from!)
      Best wishes, Pete. x

  4. (1) Do Snowdrops melt when it rains?
    (2) When I throw leaves at it, the crow cusses.
    (3) I’m ashamed to say that I’ve never seen so many proud Daffodils.
    (4) Methinks that bungee jumping off that bridge would not be all that thrilling.
    (5) “Next time I will try to capture Ollie with a longer zoom lens.” Have you thought of capturing him with a dragnet?

    1. It was cold, both yesterday and today. When I took the photos, the sun wasn’t too good, but as I had taken the camera out , I took them anyway. Today would have been brighter, but that’s often the case.
      Best wishes, Pete. x

    1. The bridge is already very popular, Don. It allows a complete and long circular walk without either using the main-road bridge, or wading the river. (We all used to do both, depending on the weather.) It is one of the best decisions the Norfolk Wildlife Trust made since they took over the area.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  5. Poor camera-shy Ollie. Does he not realise that he has a large international fan club? Nice to see all those spring flowers. I especially like them in the woods and on walks such as you have. Thank you for the photographs.

    1. I used to walk for 3-4 hours (sometimes 5) every day when he was young. So at 3mph average, that equated to about 10-11 miles a day, 7 days a week. Now he has arthritis, I am out for less than 2 hours most days, so only 4-6 miles walked now. If and when we lose him, I want to resume the longer walks, and hopefully I will still be fit enough.
We chose the house, rather than Beetley as a place. It suited us as we could buy it for cash, it has 3 bedrooms (2 are quite small) and a large living room and kitchen-diner. Also parking off road for up to 4 cars, and a garage. (Used for storage) Beetley is very peaceful, and a safe place to live, but in some ways it is not a great choice. We have no shops or pubs in safe walking distance, and local bus transport is almost non-existent. So we depend completely on having a reliable car (s) to get anywhere or to buy shopping.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  6. Spring is well on its way, Pete! 😊 The new footbridge looks like it will last for some years. Love the view from the bridge looking west.
A shame Ollie is not a good poser 😉
A big pat and hug for Ollie and many greetings from the sunny coast,
    The Fab Four of Cley.
    P.S.
Have you been to Walsingham Abbey for the snowdrops?

    1. Thank you, Dina. Yes, I have seen them at Walsingham, but it was not long after we moved to Nofolk. I need a zoom around 200mm to fool Ollie into having his photo taken. He has learned how to avoid me with a camera, and has never really enjoyed posing if he sees me with one. Though he will stand still for someone else. 🙂
Love from Beetley, Pete and Ollie. X
