Sunday Musings After A Time Change

The clocks went forward here last night, so we technically lost one hour’s sleep. I got up just after 8, only to remember that it was just after 9. I will be playing ‘catch-up’ on that hour all day now.

—————————————————————————————

The past week has been characterised by gusty, often gale-force winds. Although not cold, they have been very annoying. Rattling fences and gates overnight, tipping over unattended wheelie bins, and showering everywhere with dislodged twigs and small branches. On top of that, they have affected TV reception from our roof aerial, and the main transmitter in Central Norfolk. Fortunately, I had many films and other programmes stored on my PVR, so was able to relax and watch something in the evenings.

—————————————————————————————

Ollie has had to have another week of ear-gel treatment, after shaking his head violently last Sunday evening. He took it well for a change, and I stopped it last night as the head-shaking was much reduced. He has had a good week, seeing lots of his canine friends on our walks, and playing with them in a manner belying his old age.

—————————————————————————————-

My wife has spent the week in Turkey, with one of her twin daughters. She is coming home tomorrow, and tells me that she has been homesick, and missing me and Ollie. But they have had a rare undisturbed week of being together, and that has to be a good thing. I just did my first-ever video call with her. She is sitting on a sunny beach, drinking fresh juice next to the sea. A stark contrast from this morning in Beetley.

—————————————————————————————–

Ollie and I have spent the week together quite happily, and I have been eating things my that wife doesn’t enjoy, as well as watching sub-titled films that do not interest her.

I hope that you all enjoy the last Sunday of March, and like me, look forward to better weather very soon.

  1. Sounds like a fairly good week but lonely without Julie. You do a lot of cooking, I’m so impressed. When I’m alone I love popcorn for dinner and an old movie! Glad Ollie is doing well and the weather is improving. Hugs, C

    1. I have always cooked, before and since we were married. I cooked when I lived alone too, though I am not averse to just throwing a pizza in the oven sometimes. πŸ™‚
      Best wishes, Pete. πŸ™‚ x

  2. It seems that, despite the weather, you both enjoyed the week. I hope Ollie’s ear problems are better and keep better. It’s been quite windy here as well, but mostly sunny (although a bit cloudy and wet today. We need water desperately so that is good). Take care, Pete!

  3. I’m so pleased we don’t change the clocks here it does however affect the times I make calls to the UK…I am also not a fan of subtitled films like Julie…it sounds like she is having a nice break but will be pleased to be home and you and Ollie seem to have coped and as you said an opportunity to have some meals that you like it sounds like a good week all round xx

  4. When I worked, it always took me three weeks to catch up from the clocks going forward in the spring. Now, it only took me about 3-4 days to adjust. Sounds like you and your wife both had a good week and I know you’ll be happy to be back together! Have a great week ahead!

  5. Hi Pete, I am sorry about your lousy weather. We had a whole night and morning of rain on Friday night and Saturday. I was very pleased as we are heading into our dry winter season which is horrible. I am pleased for Julie that she has had this nice time away and it seems like Ollie and you have ‘gone it alone’ just fine. Have a great new week.

  6. I’ve been trying to change the timer on the room thermostat. I think I’ve managed it now. It’s usually Sam’s job that he would have done in an instant. I watched ‘The Horse Whisperer’ on Freeview last night – Sam would have yawned and fallen asleep.

    1. Our central heating clock/timer has automatic adjustment. The only clock I have had to change is on the microwave. (I never bothered to set the one on the cooker)
I have never seen The Horse Whisperer, not sure it’s my kind of film. πŸ™‚
      Best wishes, Pete.

  7. Glad to hear Ollie is doing OK. We’re having similar weather but at least got out today with my camera and Sophie and it didn’t rain! Looking forward to some warmer stuff but it’s not boding well for this coming week!

  8. We usually pass our weather along to you, perhaps modified crossing the Atlantic. If this holds true you will have some more gusty weather! Turkey is one of those places I would love to have visited but did not. Isn’t it nice to be missed? Also good sometimes to have space to do the things you don’t share in common. Love to Ollie. XX

    1. I had been to Turkey quite a few times before I met Julie, and once with her and her daughters. Istanbul, Antalya, Alanya, and Bodrum. It is quite a friendly place, with great food. But Istanbul is very overpopulated, (15.5 million) and feels ‘intense’.
      Best wishes, Pete.

    1. The food in question was Macaroni Cheese, and Chili, both of which Julie doesn’t enjoy. (I cooked both myself) I didn’t have one single pizza this week, but I did have home-cooked fish and chips once! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
      Best wishes, Pete.

  9. I know it probably sounds like a broken record now, but I just wish they’d leave the clocks alone! I forgot to change mine before turning in last night, but I still woke [for the final time] at around 5:30 in old money, so around 6:30 BST, which is an acceptable result for me. Nothing I can do to change it, I know, but I don’t look forward to the jump into winter when we go back to GMT in the autumn. Happy Sunday πŸ˜‰ Cheers, Jon.
