Go West is an English pop duo, formed in 1982 by lead vocalist Peter Cox and rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Richard Drummie. At the Brit Awards 1986, they received the Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act. The duo enjoyed popularity between the mid-1980s and the early 1990s and are best known for the international top 10 hits “We Close Our Eyes”, “Call Me”, “Faithful”, and “King of Wishful Thinking”; the last was featured in the American romantic comedy film Pretty Woman (1990).
Another 1980s British group that is almost forgotten now. I really liked this song then, it is very much of its time.
Inside, everyone hides one desire
Outside, no one would know
Danger, close to the edge of the knife
Safer not to let go
And while we miss chances
You can almost hear time slipping away
We close our eyes, we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes to time slipping away
No show, Wednesday girl waits with the wine
She knows just what to say
While no one listens
You can almost hear time slipping away
We close our eyes, we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes and
We can talk to strangers
We are burning with the spark
And we can walk on water
We are tigers in the dark
We are burning
We close our eyes
Heroes never give in to the night
He knows how far he can run
And as he surrenders
You can almost hear time slipping away
We close our eyes, we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes
We close our eyes, we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes
We close our eyes, we walk on water
Lets us take the blame
We are burning

Oh yeah! I had forgotten this one, but so familiar–voice just that bit like Lionel Richie plus or minus Loggins and Messina, with the synth/horns bits from earlier New Wave songs and a little could-be-Hall-and-Oates backing vocals–very much of its time indeed. Thanks for the memory–

I can see the Hall & Oates connection. I always liked them too.

Go West. I heeded the call, and moved from Missouri to Nevada in 1995!

They were from Bristol. That counts as ‘West’ in England. 😀

Another good song I did not know. While on YouTube I searched for a British guitarist hoping to find a tune I remembered and I think it must have been The Shadows. I like their sound.

Great song, Pete, and the crisp production gives away its ’80s setting. Cheers, Jon.
