The First Sunday Musings For October

Back to normal at long last. Shopping on the usual day, things to watch on TV in the evenings, and Ollie’s routine firmly established again.

—————————————————————————————

Royal news was still around, but the channels kept it sensibly short. The public can now view the big engraved slab covering the Queen’s tomb, and new coins showing an image of King Charles will be released soon. Other than that, we got a break from Royalist intensity.

—————————————————————————————-

I managed to get my Covid-19 booster two months early, thanks to numerous no-shows at the vaccination centre. I received a phone call in the afternoon inviting me to attend, and less than 30 minutes later I was fully vacccinated.

—————————————————————————————-

The weather has been up and down. Very cold at the start of last week, then some bouts of heavy rain and near gale-force winds by Friday. Then on Saturday we had a sunny and warm day, seeing temperatures much higher than expected at 19C. (66F)

—————————————————————————————-

The cost of living increases (which are still being blamed on the war in Ukraine despite the huge profits of most major companies) are now more noticeable at the supermarket. Last Monday’s big-shop had increased by almost £14 on the previous week, buying much the same range of items. I can only expect it to get worse in the coming winter, when they can blame weather conditions in addition to the war.

Wherever you are, and whatever you are doing, I hope you have a peaceful Sunday.

But I Didn’t Do Anything Wrong…

So the news is out that Prince Andrew (now just supposedly ‘Andrew’) is to settle out of court. As the date of the sworn on oath deposition drew closer, he blinked first, and will pay Virginia Giuffre ‘in excess’ of £12,000,000 for something he claims he didn’t do, and supposedly to ‘prove his innocence’.

(Anyone know how paying someone off proves you didn’t do it?)

Yes, that is TWELVE MILLION POUNDS, mostly funded by his mother, Queen Elizabeth. Yes, our Queen, the very same.

Once again, status and privilege buys its way out of crime.

This begs the question, so I will ask it of all of you.

Would you give twelve million pounds to someone who accused you of something you swear you did not do? Just to make her go away, and to let your mum (who is paying the money, don’t forget) enjoy her platinum jublilee celebrations with the stain of your court case hanging over her?

I wouldn’t pay anyone even £1, if I knew I hadn’t done what I had been accused of, I can tell you that.

The icing on the unbelievably corrupt cake is that Royal watchers are starting to claim that Andrew now hopes to be able to ‘return to the public eye’, and that this should now be ‘all behind him’. There is talk of him fronting a UK Charity in aid of young women who have been trafficked and sexually abused.

I hope they are joking.

‘Subject’, not Citizen

I am reblogging this post from 2012, as hardly anyone has seen it. Be warned that it contains very strong opinions about the British Royal Family. If you are a Royalist, you may want to skip reading it. 🙂

It has long fascinated me that people in other countries are so taken with the British Royal Family. They seem to dwell on the death of Lady Diana Spencer, and fawn embarrassingly, should any of them bother to visit their lands. I exclude Quebec, and some of the Antipodean peoples in this generalisation of course, but I think you know what I mean? It would also appear that the Royals are much-loved in their homeland, from news reports, and public attendance at festivities concerning them, or where they are due to appear.

Recent celebrations for both the Jubilee, and Olympics, have shown them, especially the Queen, to be at a height of popularity, not seen since the War. She even appeared in a promotional film, with the current James Bond, which was shown to open the games. I have to admit, that most people I talk to, believe having a…

January Sunday Morning Musings From Beetley

Well for once some retribution might be due for the ‘entitled’. Prince Andrew (now just ‘Andrew’) has to fight the sexual offences allegations in court, and lost his free ride thanks to his mother. It seems more likely he will pay off the accuser, as he will not appear in court in America, so would be destined to lose the case.

—————————————————————————————

The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, had to apologise to parliament for breaking the laws surrounding Covid lockdowns. That sparked speculation that he is on his way out, and in advance of the report commissioned to investigate the accusations, he has seen fit to ‘disappear’. Many of his former political allies and friends look very uncomfortable as they try to defend the indefensible in his absence.

If you read my recent post, you will know that Julie celebrated her birthday on Friday, and had a lovely day. We both enjoyed an excellent celebratory meal that evening.

Ollie’s fur has still not grown back, but he seems healthy and happy otherwise. Unfortunately, he has started to notice the antibiotic tablets in the meat we wrap them up in, and on a few occasions we have had to force them down his throat. That is distressing, but he needs to finish the course. He has to go back to the Vet next week at some stage for his treatment to be reviewed.

The time is coming for our five-yearly trimming of the Oak trees. Our neighbour thankfully took on the task of getting estimates for the work, which should happen before the end of March. This year, they varied wildly, with one company wanting to charge more than three times the estimate of two others. It is an annoying job, as it has to be done by people approved by the Council Tree Officer. He then inspects the work after. So we can’t just employ a willing man with a big saw!

The sun is out again this morning, but it is still a chilly 5C. At least no rain is forecast.

I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. I am cooking a venison casserole for dinner tonight.

The Prince Of Shame

Prince Andrew, Duke of York KG, GCVO, CD, ADC
Son of Queen Elizabeth II, a member of the British Royal Family.

This is how they would like you to see him; wearing military uniform, and looking upstanding and responsible.

But we all know that he is nothing of the kind. His friends Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislane Maxwell have both been convicted of procuring underage girls for sex. Epstein died in prison, (almost certainly ‘silenced’) and Maxwell is awaiting sentencing for her personal involvement in five sex crimes.

The same sex crimes that our Prince of Shame was a part of.

Yet he refuses extradition to America to face trial.
He refuses to cooperate with any further investigations.

This is the man who invited Epstein and Maxwell to stay at the royal residence of Balmoral.
This is the man who accompanied them to parties where he had sex with underage teen girls.
This is the man who used his position of influence to protect Epstein and Maxwell for years.

Now he is protected himself. By privilege, by The Royal Family, by the British Establishment, by The British Government.

He truly is The Prince of Shame, and makes a mockery of justice.

One rule for them, another for the rest of us.

It is simply disgusting.

A Right Royal Accounting

This is a slightly angry post, and not the usual sort of thing found on this blog. I apologise in advance if it upsets anyone, but there you are…

I have just seen the BBC News. They report that the financial accounts for the Royal Family have been published. Palace figures show that it cost the taxpayer around £36 million to have a Royal Family last year. This figure will have to rise to over £40 million next year, to take into account refurbishments at Buckingham Palace, and other royal residences. The palace asserts that this means a cost of around 1p a day for each person in the British Isles. This despite public knowledge that The Queen is one of the richest individuals in the UK.

Republican groups have been quick to counter these figures, as they do not include the considerable costs of providing security for the assorted royals, and their ever-growing tribe of hangers-on. The alternative cost is estimated to be closer to £300 million, if everything is taken into account. This means that I pay either 1p a day, or about 10p a day, depending on who you believe. Whatever the true figure, I would like my money back please. I don’t see why I should have to pay for the upkeep of an organisation that I want no part of. After all, I wouldn’t be expected to pay for say, a gym membership, if I never asked to belong to one.

The report also told us that £4 million was spent on refurbishing the substantial apartments in Kensington Palace, to provide a London home for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (an assumed name by the way). They were quick to add that the couple paid for their own domestic furniture, and for new kitchen units. This palatial residence was described as ‘a normal home, but with larger rooms’. If they wanted to live like a normal couple in London, why didn’t they just rent a flat on a local estate?

An old saying springs to mind. Please forgive the crude expression, but I consider it fitting.

‘Don’t piss in my face and tell me that it’s raining.’

‘Subject’, not Citizen

I have to admit, that most people I talk to, believe having a Royal Family to be a good thing generally, as they feel that it promotes tourism, and stops us having a ‘Presidential’ government.

However, there are over 62,000,000 people in the British Isles, and many of them, myself included, do not agree.

The current residents of the Royal Households are essentially Germans, of the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. The name was changed to Windsor, to make it more palatable to the public during the First World War, when Germany was the enemy.  Before this, the Royal Family was also German, from the House of Hanover. Preceding the Germans were the Stuarts, who were Scottish. Save for a short gap, after The English Civil War, those Scots ruled this country for 111 years. Prior to Scottish rule, there was Welsh rule, by the Tudors, and during the period between 1066, and the Welsh arrival in 1485, The French, specifically Norman French.

So, we can see that there has not been a ‘British’ ruler since at least 1066. Even before this date, in darker times less documented, we can be sure that many of those claiming to be the Kings of Britain, were in fact, Danish, German, or Norwegian. How many excited youngsters, waving Union Jacks along The Mall, would be aware of this, I wonder? And how many would care anyway? I know that I do. I do not agree with the concept of rule by birth, or by right, let alone what is, to my eyes at least, a foreign occupation, unchecked and unopposed, for over a thousand years.

What are Kings and Queens anyway? Go back far enough, and you will find that they are from families that had bigger gangs, better weapons, and were not afraid to kill anyone to gain power. Living in those days must have been a bit like living in Chicago in the 1920’s, or in modern countries like Rwanda, or Somalia. Large, well-armed gangs took your land, your animals, and in some cases, your families too.

They then told you that they would be your King (or Queen) and look after you, as long as you played along with them, fought in their army, and worked on their lands. They gave away bits of land and money to their friends, and called them Dukes, or Earls, and told the people that they had to do what they told them to, as well as follow the King’s orders. It was a protection racket, on a national scale. The only losers were the ordinary people.

Here I am, a millennium later. A woman calling herself Queen Elizabeth ll is on the throne; a German married to a Greek, and I am her subject, whether I like it or not. Well Mrs Windsor, ( or should that be Mrs Edinburgh? I’m never sure.) I do not like it, and I do not recognise your right to rule me, or anyone else in the UK, just because your dusty old ancestors married into money, and had a big, well-armed group of followers.

I have no respect for your in-bred family, or their dress-hanger wives, your cousins, and aunts and uncles, all leeching off society, like so many useless parasites. If we need you for tourism, then why do so many people visit Paris, Rome, or Florida? If we need you to justify pomp and circumstance, then you have never seen the annual parades along the Champs-Elysees. If we need you for History, then you have never seen The Coliseum. Presidential rule? At least we could vote them out every four years. If I could choose between you, and Obama, I know who gets my vote.

We don’t need you at all do we? It is all a massive bluff. You and your clan have pulled it off, got away with it for countless generations, and we are just mugs, providing you with protection, money, houses, transport, and treasures. The successive Governments, the Civil Service, the institutions, all propping you up to save their own skins, and keep their jobs safe, while millions who know no better, wave flags outside empty palaces. It breaks my heart.

I will not be a Subject, with all that the title suggests. I will be a citizen though, and a Republican one at that.
