I was 15 years old in 1967, and when I heard this song on the radio it appealed to me immediately. Not the usual type of music I was really into back then, but the lead singer’s vocal and laid-back production really appealed to me. It went on to become a big hit, and I still enjoy hearing it to this day, 56 years later.
Groovin’ on a Sunday afternoon
Really couldn’t get away too soon
I can’t imagine anything that’s better
The world is ours whenever we’re together
There ain’t a place I’d like to be instead of
Movin’ down a crowded avenue
Doin’ anything we like to do
There’s always lots of things that we can see
You can be anyone we like to be
All those happy people we could meet
Just groovin’ on a Sunday afternoon
Really couldn’t get away too soon
No, no, no, no
We’ll keep on spending sunny days this way
We’re gonna talk and laugh our time away
I feel it coming closer day by day
Life would be ecstasy, you and me endlessly
Groovin’ on a Sunday afternoon
Really couldn’t get away too soon
No, no, no, no
Groovin’, uh huh…

I was sharing songs and history of the Rascals with a friend just last week. The Rascals were before their time.

Seems to me we had a rascally Groover Cleveland for 22nd and 24th president. (But maybe I’m off on the spelling of his name.)

I really never paid attention to music of any kind unless I was with some girl who wanted to molest me.
