  1. Thank you for wishing us Americans a Happy 4th of July even though I am responding a few days late 🙂 I have been working these past two days so I have been busy 🙂 Anyway, keep up the great work as always 🙂

  2. Many thanks Pete! Those of us who still believe in what America could be have lots of work to do.

My wife’s youngest brother and his wife are moving back to Florida from New Mexico where he was one of those science types working at the secret “labs.” They are retired now and want to be closer to family. Their new house is under construction within walking distance of mine out here in the boonies. They are living in a residential hotel until it is ready later this month.

I am having a small get together at my place today – two brothers-in-law, a nephew (all widowers), his girlfriend, a niece, Pam and Rob and the guests of honor. Lots of good food, scotch and cigars to welcome the long lost in the wild west home!

    Besties from Florida.

  3. Although Las Vegas puts on a great fireworks display, I’ll probably just stay home and see if I can’t get a page or two written in my detective novel. I’m only 23 pages into it, with over 300 yet to go… So I need to prioritize my time when I have some at my disposal, I’m not dead tired, and my brain’s On switch is functioning properly.

  4. Thank you Pete. It’s a fun day for us. Sometimes we do our own neighborhood firework display. Sometimes we get a hotel downtown Nashville–300 thousand people cram into Riverfront Park for one of the Nation’s biggest fireworks displays. This year we’re going bowling with my daughter’s fiance. A few beers, maybe a little dancing and a good dinner. Cheers!

  5. Thanks Pete…I wish those poor immigrants whom Trump has put in cages could feel as good about independence day as those scoffing hamburgers and hot dogs and beer – celebrating what – a country that has descended to the lowest possible denominator but still has far to fall?

    1. I understand your concerns, Felicity. I try not to get too political on this blog, if I can help it.
I hope you still had a good day, despite the ‘Dear Leader’. 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete. x

  6. I thank you, Pete, for the well-wishes. It’s a fun way to celebrate my community. Off to the town picnic for pancakes and a parade. I’m an anglophile and a proud American. What an oxymoron! Cheers, my friend. Cindy

      1. Thanks Pete…I am driving across the US with my son, to help him settle into a new job in Atlanta…will be spending the 4th with him, and Elvis, in Memphis…yes, many stories to come of this journey!

  7. Well, Pete.. after all, if it weren’t for Britain we’d never have had a 4th of July to celebrate. Come to think of it.. we’d likely never have had a Trump either.

    1. Thanks, Doug. Two test comments on your blog today, and I couldn’t see either of them.

I agree, you wouldn’t have had Trump (or even you perhaps) without us. But just imagine, you would still have your own Royal Family. (And that smiling Queen- not) They could spend half the year living in an American Palace, and save all your Royal-lovers the trouble of obsessing about them from across The Atlantic. Then slavery would have been abolished in the 1840s, so no civil war either. The map of the USA might have looked very different, if an English-controlled 13 colonies had not decided to ‘expand ‘ west. One of those interesting ‘what if?’ discussions 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete.
