Apologies, but there will be no episode of ‘The Prodigy’ today. It is 6:10 pm here, and still 37C (98.5F) in Beetley. Even with a small fan in the office, it is just too hot to comfortably complete finalising the draft.
It is supposed to be even hotter tomorrow, so I will try and get it done earlier in the day.
Hang in there, Pete.

I have been in the office room today, but it is still uncomfortable at 7:30pm. The temperature has dropped considerably, but the humidity has increased. Hopefully, it will break for a few days, though next weekend is forecast to be ‘very hot’.
In England, we only ever seem to get extremes. Too cold, too wet, or too hot. And that is getting worse every year due to climate change.
Best wishes, Pete.

We rarely have days in the 90’s and we’re in a long stretch of it now, plus humidity. As you know, it’s especially hard without AC.
How is Ollie doing?

His fur is coming out in patches, and he is very itchy. But we give him tablets for the itching, and put a salve on the areas with no fur. So far, he seems okay, and is still eating all of his food.

We only survived our heat wave last year because we have a very cool basement to retreat to; and we also have a small air conditioning unit in our upstairs bedroom, a worthwhile investment! Hope the heat wave passes there soon!

It should peak today at 105F, then drop back to 80+ degress tomorrow, then down to 74 by Friday.
Fingers crossed for Ollie!
Best wishes, Pete.

Poor Ollie! Must be tough on those wearing fur coats! Glad to hear the temperature is supposed to drop tomorrow!

I remember taking a shower and standing naked in front of a fan when it was that hot in one summer when I was young without air conditioning. However since you need to have your windows open I don’t recommend it.

I did that last night after a cool bath. The curtains were closed though, I wouldn’t have wanted to frighten the neighbours! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Try hanging a bag of ice in front of your fan. (With a bucket to catch the drips underneath it!)

Knowing my luck, I would short out the electrics! 🙂 🙂

A spare bed for you 2 here plus Ollie. Electric blankets available plus raincoats & gumboots (Wellies) and we could make snowmen. Reminds of those shifts I did at Nth Ken.

I remeber we once recorded 46C in the back of an ambulance on a busy summer shift. Bill O’Neill was sweating so much his glasses wouldn’t stay on his face. We had to do two cardiac arrests during that shift, and I was completely exhausted by the time we were off duty.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, Britains heatwave was major news on here tonight along with fires in Spain. I tell people here I found London hot in summer and they never believed me. Yes I always associate Nth Ken with snow. Those lightweight patient transfer wagons we used to get from Chelsea to sub stations was sliding quite nicely as I drove at 10mph. I was lucky I was brought up on rural shingle roads and snow.
I hope theres enough water to drink & cool off with.

Terribly hot everywhere, but the fact that the houses are designed to keep the heat in there, won’t help either. I hope things ease up soon. Here we’re having big fires as well. Stay safe and as cool as you can.

I have seen those wildfires on the news, Olga. I don’t mind the heat too much, though last night it stayed at 26C inside the house, which made it hard to sleep. I mainly worry about Ollie, to be honest.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, hang in there. As you said, the worst should be over in a couple of days. Big fan on, curtains closed. Sounds like a plan!

Not a breath of air through the open window, and the fan is blowing room air as hot as a car exhaust. 🙂

It’s nearly 22 in my kitchen! Damn sight warmer outside though…….. Perhaps we need to adopt the mediterranean work schedule when it’s so hot: work in the morning while it’s relatively cool, lunch & a siesta, then work again [if necessary] in the early evening. Of course, we all know how resistant to change most of our big companies are: can’t change our working practices to suit the staff, now can we? 😉 Cheers, Jon.

Jon, it is still 35C/95F here, with no breeze, and it is 7:30pm. One of the hottest days I have ever experienced since moving to Norfok. If not THE hottest!
Best wishes, Pete.

It’s only the beginning, Pete, I am fairly sure your winter will begin mildly enough but later on as it progresses, you will see the coldest temperatures in England that have been seen for a long time.

We can usually cope with cold, John. I lived through the ‘Big Freeze’ of 1962/1963 in London! 🙂

From what I have heard the UK is getting much hotter temperatures than they have had in years. Is that correct?

Yes it is. Today it was hotter than the Western Sahara desert! It is almost 7:30 pm now in Beetley, and still 35C. (95F)
