FINALLY!

When the postman came to the house earlier, Julie handed me a letter from the DVLA.

It contained something that felt like hard plastic…

I ripped it open…

Pulled out the form…

And attached to that form was…

MY DRIVING LICENCE!

It has been renewed until August 2025, so I didn’t lose the seven months I waited for it to arrive.

I was going to take a photo of it to show everyone, but then I remembered that someone could steal the image, clone my licence, and pretend to be me.

So I am using a Gif of Victor Meldrew instead, to show how flabbergasted I am that it is finally here.

  1. I’ve been traveling and haven’t had much time for blogging. I’ve been following your saga and am glad this came to a satisfying resolution. Now, how do you get those months of unnecessary angst back? Congratulations, Pete!

    1. They started the licence in August not February, Pete. (3 years until; I have to do all this again.) So that is something. But my bitterness and stress for 7 months, I will have to live with that. I will not forgive them though. Ever.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  2. That reminds me that my driving license expired this June. Since I don’t drive all that often (My husband is my personal chauffeur), it is hard to remember the dates. I’ll have to check the process in India.

  3. Phew, that really took a long time.
It’s great that you can now drive your car relaxed again.
But I think it’s bad that the driver’s license was issued before the second eye test. Something is wrong in the office. And then every three years this stress again. Impossible.
So I’m glad that the driver’s license in Germany doesn’t have an expiry date.

I’ll drink to your health and your driver’s license tonight.
    Best wishes, Irene

  4. Finally! Great news, Pete. Don’t suppose anyone apologized for the hell you had to go through.
I got mine renewed yesterday with no problems. It’s good for 4 years, not 3 like yours.
What with my family and Mobile Bus for us elders, I really don’t need one…but not to have one would be like closing yet another door.

  5. The nightmare finally ends! I understood all of the bureaucratic incompetence – UNTIL they rejected you even though you passed the unnecessary exam! So glad it finally resolved well of ryou Pete!

  6. This is big news, Atlas! A huge burden has been taken off your shoulders! Okay, so the Earth is now a bouncing ball, but who cares? Starting today, you’re free to work on all those projects that you mapped out so long ago!

    1. Thanks Harmony. After the second eye test on the 9th, that happened a lot quicker than I expected. I suspect they had already posted it, and I didn’t actually need that second test at all.
      Best wishes, Pete. x

    1. Yes. Once you are 70, you have to renew every three years by law. Then I will have to start with the eye tests all over again. But for now, I will take those three years, Jude! I might be dead before I have to renew again, who knows? 🙂
      Best wishes, Pete. x
