  1. Very true, Pete! 🙂 Same goes for the wise wife though! 🙂 For the second last, I have seen it in action in Indian politics. People were jailed here for criticising government–because they were Muslims, they were charged with murders of fellow Muslims during the central-government orchestrated Hindu-Muslim riots! My Hindu mom keeps telling me to keep my head down since I am Muslim now and it is dangerous to offend their favourite government. People are wearing blindfolds instead of shades and expect others to do the same.

  2. (1) Mark Twain and I are of like mind.
    (2) E. Howard Hunt’s words are so true. If you keep plugging away at something, you’ll eventually end up meeting your objective.
    (3) George Carlin could see through all the political B.S., and we loved him for it.
    (4) One internet source claims Jodie Foster’s net worth is $100 million. Another one claims it’s only $8 million (due to philanthropy?). In any event, she’s definitely not living on welfare. (I do admire her as an actress, though. And she is truly fluent in French.)
    (5) Tony Benn is no fan of the military-industrial complex. It’s true that people are just pawns in the global power struggle that so often involves killing innocent people.
    (6) Fyodor Dostoevsky’s words ring truer today than ever before.
    (7) So who’s the wise man? The manipulative harpy next door, who happens to be single, wants to know. She’s looking for easy prey.

  3. Pete, a terrific collection of thoughts – we are our own worst enemies, sadly – and things don’t seem to be getting better at all…as one women’s bathroom in Seattle once had on a wall: “if they can put a man on the moon, why can’t they put all of them?”
