Today I am happy to feature one of my new followers, Roger Turner. He is an experienced blogger, with a bright and varied blog, covering lots of different subjects. This is his introduction.
“56 year old kid who never grew up. Happily married to love of my life, Megan. Transplanted Brit, living in Canada since 1967. Devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers and huge fan of anything to do with Las Vegas.”
As you can see, he has embraced a new life in North America, and as well as features on music, poetry, and lifestyle, he also posts some glamour photos, as well as comments about the often harsh weather. There is something for everyone indeed. He also writes about sport, including Golf, and has a regular ‘Song Of The Day’ post.
Always seen with a cigar in his photos, he is definitely a character, and we need more of those in our blogging world. If you think this might be something that appeals, here is a link to Roger’s blog.

Thanks, Robbie. I am aware that parts of his blog are not for everyone, but I like to offer that same chance to any regular follower.
Best wishes, Pete.

As they say, life is an acquired taste. Some things I have appeal to some, some to others, some to none at all. I admit, I go through phases with what I post. The poetry is all mine. The reblogs lately have been mainly from thewhoosh.co.uk . I find when I get bored, I repost another persons blog content. right now, i seem to be doing a lot of his stuff. time is always hard to find and deal with writing new stuff. I am backing off the number of posts I am submitting to spend more time on my own selections and writing. If you have been offended after viewing my blog, due to the generous advertising and blog post by Pete, I am sorry I wasted your time. If you like it, and like the original writings as well, I thank you. Look for my books on Amazon.com as well. I have eight books out, ranging from Christmas stories, colouring books and kids poetry to western poems and military poems. Thanks again Pete.

Cheers, Roger. I doubt anyone was very offended, as I am sure we have all seen many much ‘stronger blogs’. Of course, many of those i this part of the blogging community are female, so less inclined to enjoy a blog featuring so many glamour photos of women. The post has had 90 views so far, and numerous clicks on the link. That is not bad at all for one of these ‘Feature ‘ posts.
One suggestion might be to have your posts separated into more obvious categories, instead of appearing randomly. Then people interested in your music stuff, and your own writing could go straight to those without having to see the glamour reblogs.
But it’s your blog, and your style. If you’re happy, that’s all that counts.
Best wishes, Pete.

I assume that Roger Turner has visited Las Vegas a few times. I’ve lived here since October 1995, and love it (except in the summer, when, to quote Cole Porter, “It’s too darn hot!”). I have a feeling Roger is not adverse to seeing locals dressed in “showgirls” costumes mingling with tourists on the Strip.
Once, I came upon two ladies wearing nothing but a g-string and tiny pasties. Needless to say, a lot of guys were more than willing to take a photo with them. Of course, their wallets opened in celebration of this “sinful” opportunity. But I suspect these girls simply needed a few bucks so that they could buy themselves some nice pantsuits at Walmart.

Thanks, David. Roger writes songs too, so that is two things you have in common.

You grabbed my attention with the “56 year old kid who never grew up.” After taking a brief look around his blog, Imhave to concur with Fraggle. Plus, I’m trying to take your excellent advice and cut down a bit on the number of new blogs I follow. But thanks for doing this Pete. It was very kind.🤗

Thanks for looking, Kim. I can appreciate it may have more appeal to male readers. 🙂

Thanks, Roger. Understandably, the glamour stuff makes some people reluctant to search the site for something different.
Best wishes, Pete.

It’s interesting that you write lyrics.l also write lyrics, and am a member of SACEM. At this moment in time, I’ve written lyrics to 65 songs, mostly in the rockabilly genre. More song lyrics to come…

Can you include in your post the lyrics in print? Or the original poem, if the words haven’t been changed?

Redneck Family Reunion
Every couple ‘a years or so
Our family reunites
It takes a couple ‘a years or so
To recover from the fights
A family like our’n
Doesn’t party like most do
Ours gets a little out of hand
That’s why we have so few
It’s a redneck family reunion
everybody has a grand old time
eating grandma’s cooking
and drinking grandpas shine
You never go home hungry
If you make it home at all
You go home bruised and battered
And you surely had a ball
There’s daisy dukes and forty Lukes
They’re racing trucks and burning rubber
There’s jugs of moonshine everywhere
And at least a hundred bubbas
There’s a smoker fired for the food
the size of two large trucks
It hold 4 cows, and fourteen pigs
And at least a hundred ducks
It’s a redneck family reunion
everybody has a grand old time
eating grandma’s cooking
and drinking grandpas shine
You never go home hungry
If you make it home at all
You go home bruised and battered
And you surely had a ball
There’s pickled this and pickled that
And things you just can’t swallow
That used to live down in the swamp
Way back there in the hollow
There’s at least ten shotgun weddings there
And the groom might be rail roaded
But, the wedding isn’t legal
If the shotgun isn’t loaded
It’s a redneck family reunion
everybody has a grand old time
eating grandma’s cooking
and drinking grandpas shine
You never go home hungry
If you make it home at all
You go home bruised and battered
And you surely had a ball
There’s greased up pigs and muddy runts
And at least ten bobby sues
and when they all get greased up
You can’t tell which is who
There’s horseshoe pits for tossing shoes
And games of every sort
Most of them aren’t legal
And would get you into court
It’s a redneck family reunion
everybody has a grand old time
eating grandma’s cooking
and drinking grandpas shine
You never go home hungry
If you make it home at all
You go home bruised and battered
And you surely had a ball
But, it’s the way we like it
Drinking shine and acting out
Tossing things that aren’t tied down
And wrassling about
There’s music there of just one kind
It’s country and that matters
Any other sort of sound
Sets the crowd off like mad hatters
It’s a redneck family reunion
everybody has a grand old time
eating grandma’s cooking
and drinking grandpas shine
You never go home hungry
If you make it home at all
You go home bruised and battered
And you surely had a ball
There’s always someone who’s so drunk
And it’s normally the preacher
Last year we married him off
To the back up first grade teacher
There’s Chevy trucks of every kind
And one covered in sod
Mary Lou showed her tattoo
“Jeff Foxworthy is my God”
It’s the best time of the year for us
And it’s sad when it must end
but, you gotta haul your ass away
When the cops come round that bend
It’s a redneck family reunion
everybody has a grand old time
eating grandma’s cooking
and drinking grandpas shine
You never go home hungry
If you make it home at all
You go home bruised and battered
And you surely had a ball

I enjoyed reading the lyrics, and came away from them with a smile on my face. Coming from Missouri, I’ve met a redneck or two… I couldn’t quite make out the words being sung by the band. Do they plan to make a studio recording? I was unfamiliar with SOCAN, but I looked it up, and it’s the same type of organization as SACEM (or GEMMA, ASCAP, etc.). I assume more lyrics are to be found at your web site. I haven’t had a chance to explore it yet, but I’ve visited already. It looks interesting!

A couple of interesting posts on his site, but too many tits to wade through and not even 1 bare chest, I like an equal opportunities blogger like Vinnieh. Not to worry, I’m sure he has enough followers without me! 😀

Fair enough, FR. You do have to skip past the glamour to find them, but some of the other posts are very enjoyable.
Many thanks for having a look.
Best wishes, Pete.
