Amazon Returns: What Happens To Them?

I am always interested in Amazon. That company’s profits are gigantic, and they pay little tax. And like most people these days, I buy a lot of stuff from them. As well as that, I am on the Review Team, so get free stuff in return for fair reviews.

I rarely have to return anything though, and when I have done, I didn’t really think about what Amazon did with it. I suppose I believed they just sent it all back to the original manufacturer, and received a refund.

Apparently not.

I found this article about what happens to goods returned to Amazon.

      2. He is a business man, Pete! With destroying the small businesses, better the wholesalers who had delivered to them, there was a need of a big one. Dont forget shareholder can only make profit within big companies. One can not grab too much from small businesses, driven bei selfemployed. At least – maybe a very own conspiracy theory of me – political elections are going better with less selfemployed, and a big crowd of production workers. 😉 Michael

  2. Recently when I told Amazon I was going to return an inexpensive item they tell just keep and they would refund my payment with no charge.
    Amazon and it’s founder are not in my favorites, although I do use them, but I see where Bezos’ ex wife has given over 4 billion dollars to charity recently. At least some of that obscene profits are put to good use.
    Also there is an Amazon facility down the road that employees several thousand and pays a wage way over the minimum wage.

    1. Thanks for your thoughts, Don. Charitable donations are tax-deductible, let’s not forget that. And Bezos is the most insufferably smug Capitalist I have seen since the equally horrible Richard Branson.

    1. I am heavily involved with Amazon, for various reasons. But I would like nothing more than to slap the face of the awful Bazos! He is the smug personifiaction of all that is wrong with Capitalism.

  6. Yes, this was an interesting read. Thank you for sharing it. Now I understand where some eBay sellers (and others) seem to get the oddball stuff they offer, almost routinely and yet, never seem to sell the same thing twice. Warmest regards, Theo

  12. I hadn’t realised the scale of it, I thought that it was all sold as refurbished. Reminds me of the TV program ‘Storage Wars’ It always made me laugh when they put a value on things when something is only worth what someone will pay for it 🙂

    1. When my step-daughter lived here, she loved to watch that American programme where people were bidding on containers full of stuff that was mostly rubbish. I hated it so much I used to escape to the office and write blog posts.

    2. 30 years ago, I had a friend who bid on storage units. I went with him a couple of times and was surprised at the number of bidders on abandoned storage units who got a short peek at what was in it before the bidding started. Then they had less than 24 hours to clean the unit out. I always thought it was a way for the storage company to have someone pay to clean up someone’s mess. Warmest regards, Ed

    1. I have had no issues with them as a customer, though I always buy large electrical items and DIY goods from two local shops in Dereham. I don’t want the local market town to die off.
