Any readers of this blog will be aware of my love of films and cinema. I also admire the paintings of Edward Hopper, an American artist I have featured on this blog previously.
My friend Antony sent me a You Tube video, where the presenter discusses how films influenced Hopper’s work, and how those paintings in turn influenced film-makers. It is only 12 minutes long, and the comparisons are fascinating, at least to me. Anyone who enjoys films, and also likes Hopper’s paintings, should enjoy this video as much as I did.
This was really interesting. To realize that both the artist and the film maker were influenced by each other is fascinating. I love Edward Hopper art.

I wasn’t very familiar with Edward Hopper’s influence on the cinema, so this was very informative!

I like this a lot and I daresay Hopper would have made movies. I have seen his work but clearly not enough. He really did depict America (I should say the USA). Thank Pete. I enjoyed it.

Thanks, Pete. So interesting. Now I understand better why looking at a Hopper work I always think of film noir and vice versa. I love the suggestion that Hopper should have directed a film.
