Gorgeous Vehicles Of The Art Deco Era

Regular readers will know that I love Art Deco architecture. In fact, I love everything about Art Deco, including the wonderful vehicles.

And trains.

Motorcycles too.

Even kids’ trikes were cool.

And prams for babies were so stylish!

As the saying goes, “They don’t make them like that anyomre”.

  1. I’m a big Art Deco fan! Architecture, furniture, design. The beginning of “streamlining”. Smooth, sweeping lines. I’m particularly fond of wheel covers. Nothing is more distracting than tires. However without some airflow brakes and tires fail. You’d think the trade off in resistance would be worth engineering some air flow. But I’m far from an engineer, so here we are with gaping, air drag wheel wells, blunt noses, flat windshields…but little bitty teeny tiny LED headlights. The chrome bomb baby carriage might be a little much, but, well hell, why not? Thanks for the return to the Green Hornet and the Shadow, glass blocks, fins and wheel covers.

    1. They were very expensive at the time, and out of the reach of most ordinary working people. I suppose some people would have also employed chaffeurs to wash and polish them as well as drive them.
      Best wishes, Pete.

  2. Art Deco for toddlers and babies! I’m with you, Pete. I love Art Deco, too! (And, as you know, nearby Hoover Dam features Art Deco. Also, the Smith Center for the Performing Arts here in Las Vegas, which opened in 2012, is built in the Art Deco style.)

  3. So many unique and memorable designs there, Pete. Love the train and the silver car. The Art Deco era is one of my favourites. The stunning interiors of arguably the most beautiful and luxurious passenger liner of all time – the SS Normandie – were Art Deco.

Everything seems so boring and conforming these days in regards to the design of buildings, cars etc.
