In the last month, I have had 33 new followers who had no link to their blog or website attached to their Gravatar image or graphic.
That is 33 people I am unable to thank for following, and 33 blogs or sites I am unable to view, comment on, or perhaps follow.
Regular readers will no doubt yawn, as I try once again to advise you how to do this.
But if you do not take my advice, your blog will remain unknown, impossible to find, and you will be wondering why nobody ever comments, or leaves a ‘Like’.
Please read these posts and links, and connect your Gravatar to your blog or website. It is not difficult, even I managed it.
You can thank me later.

I second Pete. Every since I followed Pete’s advice, my blog following increased 40 times. Gravatar links allow people to find you. So, go for it…

Some definitley do that, but many are just unaware of the benefits of linking their Gravatar to their blog.
Thanks, Wilma.

Pete, I can’t thank you enough for your advice. I have been blogging painstakingly since December and always felt something was missing. Slowly the missing pieces are coming together. It is really nice of you to help us newbies.
Best wishes

Isn’t James Cameron filming sequels to Gravatar? The first film blue me away.

I see so many blogs with all the WordPress default language and no individual content. Either they are just getting started or they simply need a presence from which to create fake comments and spam. I almost wager on the latter.

You could be right about that, Maggie. But if the post helps a few genuine bloggers, then it was worth writing.

Absolutely! I have posted similar advice before, as well.

There’s a lot for new bloggers to do. A bit overwhelming perhaps. But a Gravatar with profile linked to blog is important…along with actually writing posts. Odd how many keep “Coming Soon. Check back” pages up for months or longer. Not really here for the blogging maybe

That could be the reason, PMH. Some of those people regularly like posts on my blog, but I cannot find their one to tell them about this.

It only takes a few minutes to type out a post and add links. If some new followers notice it, then that’s good.
Best wishes, Pete.

Yes, but I wouldn’t do it. I think its great for new bloggers that you do so they can learn from you. You are a great person to learn from.

It’s a shame that WP doesn’t tell everyone about this as part of creating a blog. Then everyone would be the same from day one.

In the settings, the Gravatar is included. That way, if you have more than one site, you can included them as you progress.

At the very start, I linked my Gravatar profile thingymajig to a different website to my own (we had very similar web addresses). Anyway, I don’t think they were active, but they still ended up reaping the rewards of any of my likes or comments! I still wonder if I missed out on any potential readers who didn’t realise… Luckily, it’s fixed nowadays.

Glad to hear you noticed, and fixed the link. I check those every time I get a follower, and always use it to go over and thank them for following. Over the years, I have found hundreds who did not link their blog or site.
Best wishes, Pete.

Some followers have even deactivated their sites. I am lucky nowadays if I have 10 or 15 followers who make comments. Some follow one’s blog in the that you would follow them back. I’d rather have those followers who sincerely and regularly read my posts.

I wonder if some people create accounts solely for following writers and not to make content or a website.

That is one reason, Michael, undoubtedly. There are also many bloggers who have never realised it is possible to do this, and I am just trying to help those.
Best wishes, Pete.

That’s fair, and it’s great to see you’re helping others connect their blogs. I also recommend to anyone that has a WordPress blog to install the JetPack plugin since it adds so many great features. However, Gravatar is a great place to get started so we can all stay connected.
