If you use your phone or tablet to blog on the WordPress App, you should read the article in the link. Changes are being introduced this month, splitting the choice of Apps between the current format, and the new Jetpack App. The most obvious difference will be that you will no longer be able to view your stats on the existing App, unless you change to the new one. Other changes are explained in detail on this link.
https://wordpress.com/blog/2023/02/15/switch-to-the-new-jetpack-mobile-app/
I use my PC for blogging, but have the App on my tablet for when I am away from home. If anyone has already migrated to the Jetpack App, it would be good to know what you think about it.
I have tried to install the app, but nothing happens. Waiting to hear back from Jetpack people.

I have yet to decide if I need it. Good luck with Jetpack.

I have been resisting these bothersome notifications but it appears now I will have to switch on my phone. I’m very resistant to changes but I believe this one is mandatory if you want to check stats or comments on your phone. Thanks for bringing this to your followers, it’s been helpful to see all the comments. Hugs, C

Thanks, Cheryl. I’m sure they will make the old App pointless and redundant in time.

I have encountered my first speedbump this morning. A reader made a comment on one of my posts and I received the usual email notification about it. I then logged in to Jetpack but there was no mention of that comment anywhere: it did not appear in my Comments tab nor in notifications and so I had no way to approve it or reply. I went back to the email message that notified me about the pending comment and clicked the button labeled “Approve” and it navigated me to a WordPress login screen – not to a Jetpack login. I dutifully logged in to WordPress and approved the comment. Then I checked in Jetpack but that comment still did not appear. I toggled back to the WP tab I had already open and wrote a reply to the comment. Then I switched back to Jetpack and it still has not appeared. TWO TAKEAWAYS: FIRST – The Android mobile in use has been exclusively on Jetpack for a few days and so I do not understand why email notifications about pending comments awaiting approval require me to login to WordPress? I had deleted the WP mobile app at the time I migrated to Jetpack. SECOND – I do not understand why the reader comment in question and my reply to it never appeared in my Jetpack Notifications and Comments tab. Strange and unexpected occurrence. Other than that Jetpack seems fine.

Thanks for letting me know about this anomaly, babsje. I suspect there will be many more like it, at least until things settle down with the new App.

You’re welcome, Pete. The plot thickens. FIRSTLY – In Jetpack on Android mobile this reply of yours does not appear in my Notifications tab under the ALL options but it does appear under the COMMENTS tab. It should appear in both based on how the regular WP mobile app always worked. SECONDLY – That reader comment I reported about earlier this morning still does not appear anywhere in Jetpack HOWEVER it now appears in my Notifications and Comments if I look using the regular old WP Mobile app. My reply to that person’s comment also appears there in WP mobile.

AARGH. Remember that I reported a little while ago that the comment and my reply appeared in the WP mobile app even though they were missing from Jetpack? Well, now they have disappeared entirely from the WP app, too.

From what I understand, the long-term plan is to make the JetPack compulsory across the board… I made the change without a problem, but I use none of the bells and whistles which will apparently become more of a challenge for us.

I had read another blog about the coming change and felt comfortable with it. I use my phone app for reading and commenting and I understood the wordpress version would be losing some features.

WordPress.com users cannot install plugins unless they upgrade to the business plan which costs about $299 per year. If you are on a free, personal, or premium plan, then you cannot install third-party plugins.
Pete, I’m not changing to the JetPack plug in. WordPress free version that I have cannot install plugins. Plus, I’ve read negative comments about it on line. JetPack comes with a lot of plugins that you’ll never use. It bloats the site and slows it down. I use a Mac desktop to write blogs. I’d do some reviews online before changing, if I were you. Pete, I’m staying with WordPress free and not changing to the self-hosted version. There are advantages for me at this point. As I see it, JetPack has tons of modules that you’ll never use and they all are installed, bloating and slowing down the site. The blog posts I read were from long time bloggers and authors that said don’t install HetPack. Christine

Hi Pete, I’ve seen this choice come up on my phone and ipad. I haven’t chosen Jetpack yet. I’ll give it a whirl when I next blog from my iphone. I have only checked my stats about twice in 6 years so I’m not going to miss that.

I check the stats regularly. I love to know which countries my readers come from. (Currently, around 65% from America. )

I used to only use my laptop, until it died. For the last year I’ve only used my mobile and found it much easier. I switched to the Jetpack app about 2 weeks ago and can’t see much difference really, and very easy to use. I do like the daily question prompt as well.

I quit using the WordPress app on my phone or tablet many months ago because of inconsistencies and loss of data. I use my iPad, but login to WordPress much like I would on a PC, through the browser.

Pete, I use the app on my iPad and seen the notification of the change – but very wary as any changes carried out by WP seems to make matters worse. I’m hoping to see what others think – although understand this is not an optional change alas! Thanks for highlighting and starting a discussion here.

So far, most replies seem to be positive. I am sure WP will soon remove the option to keep the old App, even though they say they won’t.
Best wishes, Pete.

I think they are keeping the old app but unless you just use it to create posts (something that I wouldn’t do on a phone) it’s fairly useless.

I switched about a month ago, not realising they were still going to support the WordPress app. I haven’t really noticed much difference, not using the app to write posts. At least the notifications still don’t work regularly, as before many of your missives take a day or two to appear. Some might say that can’t be a bad thing.

The stats bars are green, current date red as opposed to blue and that purply pink. The views stats on the home page are in a larger font and they’ve pasted a daily prompt at the top. If you’re after a quick glance at stats, which seems to be the point as WordPress becomes more and more of social media platform, they’re bigger. Other than that it seems to be the same. I reference that on an iPad.

You can turn off that (annoying) daily prompt by clicking on the three dots next to it. Same applies on the desktop version.

I’m with Jude – switched on my LG Android mobile yesterday and have had no issues. However, WordPress being WordPress, I am holding off on making the switch on my iPad and Samsung Android mobile. I am nearly blind, cannot use my laptop because of that,, and the mobile devices are a lifeline to the outside world. I can’t risk losing any functionality. WP has given such a short deadline for the cut over, but I am pleasantly surprised and pleased thus far. Good luck everyone.

I use my phone to check notifications which will no longer appear on the WordPress mobile app so I switched yesterday. Very easy to do and it all looks just the same other than the writing is green not blue.
I think it is important to mention that these changes do not affect the desktop application on PCs or Macs.

Even though I use my iPad to blog, I use the Safari browser instead of the WP app, so hopefully I won’t see any changes – I did try the app at first but found it cumbersome to use.

‘Cumbersome’ sounds about right to me, Chris. On my tablet, I only ‘view’ my blog. It doesn’t appeal to me to post anything or try to reply to comments, unless I am on my PC with the large monitor.
